Central Humidifier

At Air Makers, we supply and install the right humidifying solution suitable for your home. Humidifiers (a.k.a. furnace humidifier or central humidifier) are especially recommended for those cold winter days while the furnace is almost running continuously. The right humidifier will not only make your indoor air more comfortable and can add more warmth, it is meant to moisturize the air and prevent the continuous furnace operation from drying the indoor air. Dry air and low relative humidity can be the cause of concern for many health related issues especially for those with respiratory ailments. The lack of existing moisture in your home can further cause nosebleeds and general dehydration, skin and eye irritations as they will have an evaporative effect on your body moisture and fluids. You can also experience mild troubling effects such as static electricity shocks.

Please keep in mind that although lack of indoor moisture is a definite no-no, too much humidity can also be quite damaging to your home and health. Depending on outdoor temperature between 0F (-18C) to 40F (5C), 25% to 45%, respectively is considered a healthy relative humidity range. The exact optimized setpoint is different for every home and depending on the outside temperature. You have to monitor the humidity and be sure to balance the relative humidity level in your home to have it optimized at a level where you feel super comfortable and yet you do not observe condensation on your windows. High relative humidity levels, especially in colder days, will cause condensation on your windows – which in turn is a potential place of growth for mold and unwanted bacteria. At the notion of observing any condensing effects on your windows, the humidity setpoint should immediately be decreased. If you do not have an automatic humidifier, it is almost inevitable to avoid turning down the humidity setting during colder days, as the colder your windows get, it will make condensation more likely.

Automatic humidifiers are humidifiers that are installed along with an outside temperature sensor and the advantage to this is their automatic adjusting of the humidity based upon the outside temperature. If installing a humidifier for the first time – whether manual or automatic – you should try out a trial and error period to allocate the optimized relative humidity setpoint most suitable for you and your home.

Below, please find the full supply and installation price of some of the humidifier models that we carry. These are flow-through type humidifiers that are different with respect to their waterflow and evaporation capacities and therefore their coverage area. The Aprilaire model A600 is an automatic type humidifier, installed with an outside temperature sensor.

We also carry all Carrier humidifiers and one issue to keep in mind is that any humidifier will function as an automatic humidifier when installed with the Carrier Infinity™ Control. The Carrier Infinity™ system is always installed with an outside temperature sensor and further to the convenience of taking the humidity level adjustment into its function, you will also be able to monitor and control the humidity levels in your home just by using your Infinity™ Control.

And last but not least – you don’t always need a humidifier in your home in order to avoid the hazardous effects of dry air. If you have any means of humidification in your home that puts moisture into the air, it could potentially replace a central humidifier. For example, if there are a great number of plants in the home – as plants release water vapour into the air during the photosynthesis process. Or if a lot of cooking during the day is always on the agenda; if you own a large fish tank setup or even if you live in a rather rural setting surrounded by plants and trees you might not need a central humidifier. Just be sure to have some means of monitoring of the humidity level in your home, i.e. a humidistat, in order to optimize your health and comfort when it comes to issues concerning this topic.
