Mid-efficiency Furnace vs. High-efficiency Furnaces

If you are interested in replacing your old furnace, we would most certainly recommend that you choose to go with a high-efficiency model. A high-efficiency furnace will cut your gas consumption by potentially hundreds of dollars on an annual basis - depending on the efficiency and size (power output) of your existing furnace. Aside from fuel cost savings, most high-efficiency furnaces feature energy-efficienct parts like DC powered blower motors and even DC powered inducer motors. The cost savings related to electricity consumption could also be in the range of hundreds per year depending on your existing furnace as compared to the furnace model being installed. And let us not forget the abundance of comfort we can get with the operational features and lower sound rating of certain high-efficiency furnace models.

Certainly, the initial purchase and installation cost of a high-efficiency model would exceed the cost of the mid-efficiency furnace.  However, keep in mind that with the existing rebate programs such as the EcoENERGY Retrofit and the Heating & Cooling Incentive (OPA) programs , not to mention the Carrier Cool Cash rebates, your net real cost of purchase and installation of a high-efficiency furnace could potentially be less.

With that said, there are however circumstances where the installation cost of a high-efficiency furnace is very high - mostly, for instance, in the case of semi-detached homes with finished basements and costly ventilations - and it might actually be more feasible to replace your old furnace with a mid-efficiency model. Please note that in rare cases, to remove the old furnace or to install a new one, we may have to perform extra work such as removing your Hot Water Tank. Depending on their nature, these extras are chargeable.
